yes its happen because this 3 pages related with this keyword so they provide 3 different pages result.
Perhaps it is due three pages above receive more traffic for almost identical keywords (long or short tail) or those three pages are deemed more important than other pages (which have same/almost identical keyword) in that domain. My domain usually appear two or three times in first page and I think everyone already aware about it. It is a sign if multiple pages in that domain are relevant with the keyword being searched. If you look closely, most domain which appear two or three times has better structure for certain keyword.
For this words ( if they are unique for the page ) this page is most important in google eyes.You know how google work : The visitor tab in the google bog" something" and google search for this "something" . If this word exist in only one site ( in 2-3 pages ) google will show the all 3 pages on the top .
