Just thought of this myself. I think Google should reward those who reports a valid TOS violation and when they ban that account, the person who reported should get some sort of reward just like how you refer people to sign up at Adsense. I think it'll help the severe click-fraud situation at hand. Just a thought. What do you think ?
It would get out of hand from jelous adsense publishers reporting people all the time and then the investigations would take too long.
Well, they can apply the same thing inversely. Those who reports a fake TOS violation report will get some sort of punishment. I think that alone will scare those jealous Adsense publishers away. There's got to be a way to stop the click-fraud situation.
There is no way a publicly traded company would do something like this. They would basicly be admitting to a fraud issue which they cannot deal with themselves. It would never happen as it would put a major hurt on their stock price.
I am sure they get plenty of reports anyway, the issue they need to address is making sure the reports are acted on in the proper manner.
That will never fly. There are too many flaws in your plan. Already mentioned is the admittance of a fraud problem which alone would kill a LOT of their business, also the over zealous fraud reporters would just create back-logs for the investigators. Then you have a problem of payment, what if a site gets reported several times? What if people open fake accounts just so they can report them later? How do you "punish" as you say a fraudulent reporter? The last thing this world needs is Google police. Just spend your time trying to build good sites and make money instead. On a side note, I think GOOGLE should do something about the click fraud. I think in general it's ok, advertisers who see something fishy will probably report it themselves.
You work for Google? Why do you state that as fact? It's an interesting idea but will make it a bit of a Wild West scene I think. 5% commission on what was in the banned user's account would be cool. Google isn't going to hand it back to the advertiser anyways I believe. Being a full time TOS Security Emergency Reporter (Tosser) would be quite a sad act though.
I agree, being publicly traded means anything that shows weakness or that they don't have a handle on something means lower stock price and shareholder lawsuits. Especially since they derive 97% of revenue from their search offerings.
how about we have a little TOS catching comptition? Everyone chip in a buck and whoever found and post the most TOS violated site win the pool. It would be fun. Not just for the many, but also fight those spammy page
