They have little choice, the copyright status in the US is pretty strict and what they do is not considered fair use under the copyright act. So they have to pony up the money to the publishers & authors.
Im glad that authors got paid and they settled. Actually its the same kinda thing that happened with "napster" with infringing on copyrights if im not mistaken. thx malcolm
