I don't really understand it... If they mean Google are going to start limiting/filtering sites from news results (like Rupert Murdoch's sites), then good. IMHO, the sooner the better.

    Cheers

From what I hear it means 5 clicks and you’re out.

Either register or pay to view more pages.

Yer i heard about this and its because the newspapers are complaining about there sales being effected. I think Google will now be forwarding people to the payment/subscribe page for that particular newspaper after they have reached there 5 clicks for the day....I'm sure Google will be taking a small cut for the ''troubles'' lol

This is an interesting play by Murdoch. I can't disagree with the point that google is essentially realizing revenue from the content of the newspapers. I also don't think people are going to pay for news, maybe for the times, but there are so many sources available and I think if they put the content behind a pay wall it's going to open the floodgates for new news organizations - maybe google will start it's own news bureau.....

This is a great idea. I'm not sure it's the best way to do it, but something needs to be done here so that advertisements are not the only income stream for Publishers. It's in the best interest of the Readers for the Readers to pay some sort of small subscription fee because then they have some control over the journalism.

If the publishers are receiving 100% of their money from advertisers, then advertisers are essentially in control of media. That is a VERY bad thing for the Reader.

I'm surprised the news sites are STILL trying to cling to old business models and have not found new ways to monetize themselves. I'm sure it can be done.
