Google Servers have a holiday on the weekends?

    Hello,

I have noticed that for the past 2 weeks my site has gone from #2 to #1 (for a keyword) on the weekends or near the end of the week then goes back down to #2. The competitor site is sometimes #1 and sometimes #1 with sitelinks. For the past few months i have been #2 with the competitor #1.

What can i take from this information? Are the "weekend servers" more up-to-date and soon i will be #1? or is that wishful thinking :D

its a well observed phenomena known as the weekend index.

it's sometimes a sign of things to come, but not always.

quite often your kws might do this for a few weeks, before permanently making it across from the weekend index to the main one.

Googlebot is just hung over from clubbing all weekend long. :D Just keep adding quality content and doing some link building. Research your competitors backlinks and take notes of what they are doing. Try to get some links on the authority sites your competitor has links on.

It sounds like both you and your competitor are closely ranked. An authority link or two may get you to number 1 and keep you there.

    Good luck :)

Its become fairly well established that google tests algorythm changes at weekends - maybe this accounts for your fluctuations. Are you seeing changes in traffic accordingly?

cant really say i am getting much more visitors, if i am its not noticable. I guess being #2 and #1 isnt too much difference.

Its the weekend now, i will see if i go back up :D but i doubt it, the competitor site is #1 with sitelinks again.
