I am currently ranked 4th and 14th for my two major keywords on Google respectively. The first keyword has search frequency of 500,000 per month in US alone (ref. Google Keyword research Tool). However, when I check the impression on my Google Webmasters Tool, it shows 1500. What does this mean? Will the number go high if my site were to rank on top 3 positions? Help!
The position does matter but Google is not always 100% accurate on the traffic count. I have seen some screwy things like this in the past myself. The only people that really knows is Google and they're not telling...
Of course.. the number would go high if you are able to get number one position. Many people just click away from the search page using the first link in the list... and never bother to check the other sites listed down the order! Regards, RightMan
I bet the 500000 searches you found with the keyword tool was broad match. So you are probably not ranking well for any variation of your keyword. This is why I always use exact match. However I think that once you rank #1 for your keyword you can expect at least 5000 visitors a month if you're getting 1500 now for a 4th spot.
Certainly you can reach more impression as you reach top! And I would suggest you better rely on Google Analytic tool to count your impressions and clicks as it is actually designed to get more such information!
its damn sure impression will high as you get better SERP. 1st top 3 cover most of organic traffic in ranking list.
1. The 50,000 numbers could be broad match and not exact match as Mykonos mentioned above. It is impossible to have too much different between Google Keyword Tool and Google Webmaster Tools since they both do using the same database. 2. The higher ranking will cause higher traffics, thus higher CTR as well. Most of peoples usually click on first 3 results in certain keyword 3. If your website is not 2+ years old then you have to be patient first. Your website ranking will not that stable until it has enough established trust from Google perspective.
yes of course. the top position might get "I'm feeling lucky" effects, and that's the nature of most internet users. get the first position, and you will get that effects too.
the click rate on the first page decreases exponentionally with the increase in ranking, so try to acheieve the top 3 ratings to get more traffic
