Google SERPS going haywire today. almost 90% traffic has vanished overnight. Crap blogs writing duplicate content and copying my content are ranking higher and am nowhere to be seen. This is crazy anyone else noticing this huge change?

There might be some changes and update on test.. or being implemented. All generous subsequent PR updates and SERP changes happened from last couple of months, before Bing was launched.

Ya this does happen quite often and my guess would be recalculation. It is funny the first time it happens to you or one of your sites because it brings up a lot of questions of what you may have done wrong and hours of pointless research and posts and then your site pops back up a few days later.

My observation is sites that were ignored by Google in the past are ranking high in the serp now, I don’t know if this will last or is just a phase, my site with lot of original content that use to get a lot of traffic from Google has dropped significantly and the one with no content has gone up 200%

It does seem that for many keywords Google is ranking crap sites over long established ones.

If I didnt know better you may say Google was helping Bing by displaying rubbish to its users to see how many will move over. haha

Every site of mine has been affected, that includes ones that have never linked to each other, never been on the same server, and have different whois info. Some of them are leaders in their business field.

So the irony here is that sites that are buying links are the ones ranking high! I have spent many hours investigating this. Matt Cutts I hate you with a passion, your lies or your ignorance about many subjects sicken me. The SERPS results always seem to contradict everything you say. Sculpt PR, dont sculpt!

Lucky my eggs are not all in one basket but Google is a pretty large egg. Lets be honest if you have a web based business and your not ranking well in Google its pretty hard going!

Would it really hurt Google to release a statement every few weeks/months saying that there is an algo change or something just so that we all know, they dont have to give us details but a common courtesy so we dont waste hours of our days trying to find out if we did something wrong, like checking logs or server down time etc.. There should be some respect for their customers thats all i am saying.

Yes, this sometimes happens, and the best thing would be keep on updating content and building backlinks, and hopefully you will get your rankings back.

I've been trying to figure this out for the past week, when my traffic dropped 50%! The only thing I'm doing in the meantime is writing new content and keeping my site fresh until this crap is over.

This happened to me and I didn't know why. Finally got on Google's Webmaster Forum and asked. Found a boatload of sites that duplicated my content. Went after them. Sent letter to webmaster if I could and then went after hosting company if I couldn't.

Down to three or four duplicated articles now, instead of my entire site.

Forum posters with no attribution. Articles lifted with no attribution.

Looking to see if this brings site's ranking back.

Response time on G's webmaster forum very, very fast. (Not as fast as here, but early morning Sunday, had response within two hours.)

The way things are going, it appears big G is trying to re-write its serps algo....from backwards!

No wonder, I see lot many crappy sites coming on the top in search...these days.

    Dendy,

Sandbox? Cmon My website is linked by Pr9,8,7 you name it. I have been blogging since 2006 and a known personality in my niche. According to yahoo, I have over 68000 backlinks and now some crap blogs copying my content with only 100-2000 backlinks are ranking higher?

Gazzerman, I feel for you man. I have those idiots who copy our content. I managed to get down about 5 of them, got them down on their knees but they just keep popping. The worst part is of course when these loosers rank higher than us (the original writers) and get all the traffic without doing any hard work.

There is a lot of discussion about this on another popular forum. It's happening to many established websites including one of mine. Mine was out for about 7 days then came back with 3x the traffic it ever had from Google. Check out webmasterworld for more information.
