I've seen a few threads here asking or talking about what effect the geographical location of a sites hosting may have on its rankings in Google, so I thought I'd do a little experiment and see whats what. I took one of my sites (hosted in the UK) which had been ranking thus in Google for its main search terms: Google.com (USA): Rank: 47 Google.co.uk (UK): Rank: 2 A few days ago I moved the site to a US based hosting company (a $4 a month GoDaddy account in this case) and today checked the rankings once more for the same keywords: Google.com (USA): Rank: 7 Google.co.uk (UK): Rank: 1 The results are intriguing as moving to a US based host from a UK one, by my understanding, would have meant the site went up in US rankings (as the site was now hosted in the US) and down in the UK rankings (because the site is no longer hosted in the UK), however as you can see the rankings went up for both, and in the US it made a dramatic improvement as the site in question is now on the first page which is great! Additionally the tool I used checked another 30 or so countries results and the site had moved from a rank of anywhere between 3 and 20, to ranking 1 or 2 for all of them! I will watch the rankings over the coming days to see if they stay at this level, but right now its looking like a very strong argument for hosting sites in the US rather than any other country, especially if you are targeting the US, and possibly even if you are targeting other countries. Will post again in a few days to let you know of any changes
nope the ranking is not based on the graphically. but remember when you are in UK, automatically it will search on the www.google.co.uk
Its a global website so I want it as high as possible in all countries, but it was hosted in the UK, I moved it to hosting in the US and the rankings improved both in the US and UK (and all other countries)...
It's not just server location, its the location of your inbound links (in fact that's more important) than affect the regional SERPS. Anyway you have to give it more time. Check in another month or so, and see if there any changes.
