Google SERP problem.

    Hello everybody.

    I have a 6 month old blog and I`m trying to get genuine Google traffic to it;

    I regularly check SERP and I see that I`m on 50th position for keyword in "" ("my_keyword") and i`m not even in SERP for keyword without quotes.

    About 3-4 days ago my page appeared in SERP on 33th position for my keyword without quotes, I got some traffic instantly. But after 2 days it dissapeared from SERP again.

    Now I don`t know what I`m doing wrong. What`s the problem with my blog/links/Google ??? Why I`m not in SERP for keyword without quotes ?? What sould I do to get there?

    What I have already done:

    • I`m following all Google webmaster recomendations as possible;
    • My articles are longtale keyword - optimized (not too much);
    • I have approx. 50 links to each page from article syndication sites and web 2.0 resources (DoFollow) with my keyword in the anchors. Links exist for about 1,5 month already and are indexed by Google.

    If its a competitive keyword then it could take more work.

    If you are doing everything by the book then it will eventually come around. But the ups and downs are normal.

    Wow, that`s quick reply, thanks!

    Well, I can`t say it is competitive... Look: (1) It has only 300 searches/month; (2) Competition (using quotes) = 73,900 pages. (3) It`s a long-tale kw (5 words)..

    I thought it`s enough 10-20 links to get it to the top but I suppose I was wrong.

    Well, I`m not greedy, I`d be glad to be somewhere in top 5-10. But I`m not even in top-200!!! :(

    does the movement correlate with changes on the site? a blog post perhaps. Google will move you up the serps if you keep posting fresh unique content, especially with blogs.

    Google can tell what kind of site you have. I knows that blogs should be updated regularly, so if you stop posting then your ranks will slip.

    Check your competition more thoroughly. Those competing pages give you a rough idea of how much work it may take to get on the first page, but you also have to factor in how competitive the top sites are. Some long tail keywords look very attainable by the competing pages number, but if you look at the top 10 sites, you'll often find they are high PR sites with some 2000 backlinks. It's like the above poster mentioned, the ups and downs are normal. It is especially true for competitive keywords.

    OK, the phrase is FREE SMALL BUSINESS ACCOUNTING SOFTWARE.

    I know, it`s wide-spread, so every nube can find this phrase... And sites in top 10 are tough guys.

    But.. What surprise me - I`m not even in top-500 (just checked). What I want to say - if I was on position 56, for example, I would not worry so much :). But with all my backlinks and unique content, I`m not in SERP at all. That`s what I can`t understand.

    BTW, the page is not in supplemental, I`m sure; have checked.

    I am not sure if I am the right person to answer your question as I am not a special blog marketing expert. My own blog does only rank on the unlucky # 13 actually for blog marketing :eek: (without quotes) but if you want to learn, I think there is alvays a way. ;)

    Well, I suppose nobody wanted that position, so they gave it to the first stupid SEO who did not realise and said " yes please". :D

    For the record, you are not alone. I have also had 3-4 of my sites experience HUGE drops within the last week, and I have been doing everything by the book. There also several others in this section of DP that have experienced big declines in their ranking as well, so it might be more related to either: A) an update with the PageRank, or B) an adjustment to the algorithm that has affected certain sites. I just hope that the dance is almost over so my ranking can recover as quickly as possible.

    A lot of time you will go up and down in the ranks, move up 3, move back 1, move up 2, move back 1, move up 10, move back 3.

    When you are increasing in the ranks, the rankings are very volatile, meaning they are constantly shifting.

    Just keep doing the proper things, building quality links and other forms of promotions, and possibly adding more relevant content if you are planning on continually updating the site instead of leaving it static.

    You can also do a search allinanchor: "keyword" - and see where you rank for that, this will give you a good idea of how many links you have with your targeted keyword compared to the competition.

    I don`t think my problem is similar to yours. I`m very stable in SERP for querry with quotes ( "keyword" ). But I never appeared in SERP without quotes (except 4 days earlier - just for 48 hours).

    You will keep moving up and down. But if your keywords and backlinks are iron strong, you won't need to worry. Domain age also plays a large role.

    Just keep building unique content, and good back links and you'll be fine.

    OK, people, I heard you. I want to thank everybody for help!!!

    BTW, are links from article directories (like articlebase.com and less popular article directories) considered "iron strong" ?

    Based on my experience.. I have worked for a site that was almost
    5 years old. The keywords, traffic and rankings are doing great.
    But there was a time that this site almost lost it's rankings.. we are thinking
    why this is happening.. the promotion is just right not too much nor
    not lacking.. and we have found out that there is an update in Google..
    almost half of our keywords went down and there is nothing we can do
    about it.. what we just did is we continue what we are doing and not later
    than a week all of our keywords came back to normal..

    It`s interesting, in Google webmaster panel the keyword I`m talking about is listed (in top search querries) and it says that my page is on the position 14 of the SERP. But this is not true. I suppose it was there for some short period of timem then I slipped from SERP again.

    BTW, are links from article directories (like articlebase.com and less popular article directories) considered "iron strong" ?

    Whenever I am in the same trouble, I just keep on updating new content!

    And I guess Content is the king is no cliche, because no matter how google's algo change, as long as we have good content, things will become much more easier!

    Hi,
    If you need to come higher for keywords related to accounting software then get some quality links from "accounting" category in any of the top internet directories like yahoo directory, business.com, botw.org, mastbusiness.com, ezilon.com and more. Once having quality links relevant to your site the ranking will jump quite high in google.
