I want to know what are the similarities and differences among 3 most common search engines...

Well...just from reading it seems MSN has more relevant and newer content, whereas Google penalizes you if your site is new.

I disagree. They don't penalize you, they simply don't let you be ranked very high until you make your site known around the internet. Google uses different methods of ranking than MSN/Y!, it's just a different kind of search.

And that's penalizing, isn't? ;) However, I respect Your view.

For example, Google has DMOZ & YahooDirectory Links as special (and highest) value links and MSN doesnt.

MSN & Yahoo! give more value to KW's in URL's than Google does.

i agree, but i think sooner or later, yahoo and msn will stop including "having keyword in domains" as a factor in their search algorithm, because peopl just keep buying ####-####-#####...com domains

Google's sandbox is ridiculous. And we don't even know why we get sandboxed. Not all new ones go there...

That's a good article. Yahoo seems to rank meta tags and quality of content very highly where Google worrys a lot more about incoming links and age.

Google gets more hits, meaning if you can optimize Google you win.
    MSN < Yahoo < Google.

PageRank is Google's. No other SE cares about it :D.

Google doesn't penalize new site, it just puts it in the SandBox, untill the site proves it deserves to live :p.

    Hope that clears things out..

Google is pagerank and sites that rely on pagerank, listings on google and google backlinks are dependant upon that pagerank stays alive. If google kills pagerank what do some sites base their value off of since a site with a pagerank of 1 has a different value than a site that is a pr7

MSN and Yahoo are a little different, yes they dont care about pagerank but at times I do see sites of similar listings on all three. At some point I thought they were all working together since listings were almost identical, but that was only for a day or so.

On MSN and Yahoo links count, links from "what seems like high ranking sites" and links with good anchor text. But than again Gooogle loves links too! So the best avenue is to get links with good anchof text and all the search engines will love you!!!

PageRank is used in some form or another on other search engines. It's basis is basically incoming links. Make a blog on blogger or use googlepages and your site will be indexed. To have it high on the SERPs is another matter.

You can even use the free ones, like tripod or geocities. I have a geocities page that ranks pretty high. (Not as high as I want, but considering that I'm not paying anything for it, it's okay.)

    In very General terms,

Google loves one way content links from relevant pages
MSN love links, sitewides from anywhere, just al long as there's lots of them
Yahoo loves slighly spammier (high keyword density) pages with good links

I just made a seperate post about my observatons, but i'll add them here too and see what y'all think of them.

It seems that MSN likes my subpages very well. (They are very well textually optimized - titles, urls, everything)

Google likes my homepage, perhaps because most of my links point there?

Yahoo likes my blog. Perhaps because of the updated content?

Do others of you have similiar experiences? My above observations go along with what I know about the 3 SE's, but i wanted to know what others had seen...
