    Hello,

I was planning on a new site (Pure HTML and CSS). I have a few questions regarding SEO.

Suppose I have a website on say animals. Is it better that I gropu articles for say elephants under a directory or should I keep them close to my domain as possible?

    e.g

    www.animals.com/ant/how-ants-work.html

    or

    www.animals.com/how-ants-work.html

I will have a lot of articles under say the ants sections. Maybe another 10 under the elephant section and so on.

So should I group them under a directory?

You should keep the final file as close to the domain as possible, with as few / as possible... and then make sure your .html name is fully keyword optimized to the page in question.

It's all depends on animal database...
If you have more animal databse article then you may create group under directory, I think that group under directory is the best way to categories your data...

If you want to rank these pages in Google SERP in the future then it does not matter how you will structure your pages you will need to focus on anchors for each page.

I think you can create a architecture that demonstrates like domain, then the category and then the items.

    Thanks

Actually structure does seem to matter.

The more folders down your content is, the less importance given by the search engines.

One level down from root is where there is optimal performance organically, from my experience.

Well I saw pages with 4-5 deep level ranks better than 1 level pages. All you have to do is build good links for these pages.

There are always exceptions to the rule of course, ;) but for keywords that drive traffic, the closer to root the better.

Ok. So organized in a folder is better right? Or should I make it close to teh domain and then list a page say articles-on-elephants.html and then link to all the articles I create on my site about elephants?

I guess under each category (I will have around 3 ), I will have around 15-20 articles.

    www yourdomain.com/cat2keyword/article.html

    etc
