Is it just me, or are these devices pretty useless for most people? Maybe I just haven't jumped on the USB bandwagon enough... o I already have a good mouse-- no need for a cheap wireless one that apparently has a wild crazy pointer speed or something... o USB flashlight/torch? Kinda cool, but my laptop gave me errors about it drawing too much power or something, and I can't see it being even kinda useful anywhere but a laptop-- and not at all to me specifically... o USB hub-- Like I don't have enough USB ports already... Most computers these days have them all over. o Ear bud/mic: if I cared about internet phone kinda stuff(a craze of 5 years ago, IMO), I'd already have a nicer one than they sent. In fact, I think I have a couple in my junk boxes in the basement somewhere... o USB flashdrive-- Something I might actually use, but I dunno for what yet... Any time I'd want data, I can usually get to it via networking(LAN or WAN). Xmas presents I would have far preferred: o My traffic back o Faster indexing of my sites o Better reporting for Google Referrals(firefox) o A check for any amount o Google Apparrel of some sorts o Any amount of Google stock o A thank you note. -- Derek
They are not really useless to me. Comes in quite handy actually. I travel a lot, so things like a wireless mouse come in handy, given mine along with my USB light were stolen by TSA on a flight to Washington DC earlier this year. The USB light is kind of nice for us without backlit keyboards. The thumbdrive will no doubt find use. I usually carry my PPT's on my iPod Shuffle, thus reducing the amount of songs I can hold to about 120, so I can put the PPTs on this little baby now. Since Google is in one of my Marketing sessions, I suppose flashing that nice little logo will come in handy pushing my points. In all, I suppose if you bought all this stuff separate on your own you would easily pay over 100 bucks. Anyway, I am not complaining.
A stocking full of coal is probably more valuable, considering energy prices these days... ;-) Seriously, I really missed a little note in the package that said, "thank you for making us hundreds of thousands of dollars this year".... -- Derek
The idea of hooking up a physical mouse instead of using the trackpad never occured to me. Is your trackpad that horrible? They make backlit keyboards? That'd be kinda cool. What are you looking at your keyboard for, BTW? I'm curious why they'd choose such specialized gifts, when I'm betting a majority of the recipients don't have the use for them that you do. Why not give a gift of universal appeal? Everyone(well, almost) wears shirts, hats, etc. How about a coffee mug? Most people drink hot beverages of sorts. Maybe next year, Google can assume we all smoke and get us lighters or ash trays. -- Derek
Dude, if you don't like it, throw it away or give it to someone else. Man, I've never seen anyone complain so much about a free gift.
No, I use a Mac, it works just fine. However, I like to be able to use a normal mouse when I have the unit out for long periods. It's nice to have an extra button and scroll, etc. Ah, yeah... Well I am not really looking at the key board. It's just the ambiant light that is nice, especially if you are working in the dark and have liquid and other things near by you would like to see, etc.. When you find that utopia that defines "universal" appeal, get back to me. Mugs? God not another mug. I don't polute my system with coffee.... It's worse than smoking IMHO. Now that'd be nice. I'd love a nifty Google Zippo!
DHL have finally delivered in Scotland so I received the full set today which is nice, I appreciate the gesture no matter what is inside and I could do with a new mouse.
Just got mine today and I am in Massachusetts USA. Mine came Fedex ground so their might be more out their not delivered yet. Or maybe they last minute decided to send me one so I would continue adwords as well as adsence. Happy Holidays Everyone. Thanks G for not forgetting about me!
Today I got a Christmas card from Google. Guess I didn't spend enough on adwords and just too short on adsense to justify the gift as well. Anyway, I respect the fact that I got something
Are you sure it was a "Christmas" card? I got a card from them, but it was not a "Christmas" card. It was a Happy 2006 (Happy New Year Card) in several different languages.
Damn all these people getting gifts - I've been using Adsense for ages but haven't received anything other than one cheque (which wasn't for much).
I havent recieved anything yet. Which is weird, because my site made very good money. Should i contact them?
