Hello all For the past couple of days Google has been sending junk search hits to my 404 Page Not Found" page. Because of this my traffic has shot up some ten fold.I have no idea why this is happening. My site is about foreign stocks.Up until now in Google search my site showed up for keywords related to stocks.Now for example if people search for: "free wine tasting invitations templates" or "multiplication square puzzles" Google lists my site's non-existent page in the front page. So people click on it and land on my 404 page. Google my site in search as : http://topforeignstocks.com/qTspe0Kp/ Why is google doing this?. I did not make any weird changes to my site other than to fix a small thing in my htaccess file. I am kinda lost on how Google is showing some page that don't even exist in my site matching with irrelevant keywords. How can I solve this error?. Thanks a lot in advance. -TFS
Monetize your 404 page with offers and banners. There is no such thing as junk traffic, if its coming from google search...
Ok.I will do that. My only worry is that my bounce rate is now too high. Not sure if this affect me in any way. Thanks.
You'll be ok. The vast majority of people don't monetize 404 pages. The shame is they get millions of views per day and become wasted real estate. Put up some cpa offers there, something universal like play bingo online or win a free dinner or something. Even if you were to convert one offer all year on your 404 page, you still come out a winner, and don't worry about your bounce rate, it has nothing to do with serps. Google can't even track bounce rate unless you put a script on your pages.
