I am still a steady #5 for allinanchor for the very keyword phrase I was dumped 80 spots for...

In fact, I look great for allintext: allintitle: allinanchor: allinurl: for the phrase 'web hosting paypal', which is one I took a major hit on. I should be in the top ten... was at 14 or 15, depending on the d/c.

Sure gives credibility to Caryl's theory.

I had it happen and had to block the IP address, but that doesn't do anything about the cache. From what I have read, there is an exploit in an older version of a software which people were using to get past filters. Usually the offending website doesn't even know what is going on.

I wrote google last week about it - and they actually replied- but could only suggest contacting the webmaster.

And the cache is what is used to determine rankings... public or not. (noarchive sites would not show if this was not true)

    http://www.googleguide.com/advanced_operators.html

allinurl:www.somesite.com will list results that contain "www.somesite.com" in the URL

Addendum: inurl:healthy inurl:eating is the same as allinurl: healthy eating

site:www.somesite.com will list all pages for that domain in Google's index.

Half of my keywords have recovered from a fall yesterday. Breathings back to normal, pulse back to normal.

Not me. What I see in todays tracker results is a a doubling of the damage from yesterday.

Fortunately, I was wrong about one thing -- it is only this one site which has been hit. The other site which I thought was hit just happened to randomly have a horrible day yesterday. :D

I believe that I will copy the content from my disappeared site to another domain and take my chances with a duplicate content penalty.

You can welcome me to the pity party...my rankings dropped like a rock yesterday.

One data point to add: googlebot is crawling like crazy at the moment. The site that dropped had a thorough crawl twice in the last 2 or 3 days (unusual for that site). Also, another sandboxed site has been getting crawled on pages which are rarely visited by the bot. If anybody wants to use this as evidence Google's lost some data and need to rebuild their index then go ahead, be my guest. :D

Yep, I've recovered around half of my keyword positions today as well.

This type of activity usually ends up with a Toolbar PR update so lets wait and see :)

All I can say is I hope the wait doesn't turn out to last too long.

Yesterday traffic to my site was about 50% of normal Sunday traffic, and today is even worse. I checked Google serps and noticed that all of the keywords that have been stable #1's for over a year are gone from the results. Even keywords that I'm not optimising for in any way but that are just natural #1 results. Or were, I should say.

Today I get more traffic from Yahoo than Google. However, not suprisingly, most traffice comes from people who have my site in their favourites or click on links on other sites.

When I do a site: search for my account in Google, it reports four times the usual number of pages indexed. It even throws up lots of .html pages, which haven't been on the site for at least a year.

When I search on my most valued former #1 keyword, a site pops up as #1 that has no pagerank, no Alexa ranking, and no content whatsoever on the resulting page. Whatever is going on, this clearly can't be Googles intention, or can it?
