I believe that the theory was about google loosing internal data used to pre-rank / weight websites. Without this data, many websites would be lacking a certain amount of ranking weight determined internally at google. So, your site would still be in the index, but would not rank well.

Anyone correct this if I understood this incorrectly.

This is horrible on all accounts, my bread and butter site has dropped to oblivion. The only cure to this is to take a 7 day vacation and see what pans out.

There are usually a large number of webmasters after any major update who get tight and stay tight for days... especially in Scotland and Ireland...

You give good advise as per usual too..

It all seems very arbitrary. Almost all of the pages that have dropped like a rock have hit somewhere between the 650's and 800's in rankings. Why is it that everyone is going from top-20 or top-10 to the 800's? Why not to the 200s or 300s? I'd say there is a definite pattern there. I know my sites did not lose 800 slots of relevance and I don't think Caryl's did either. I could understand 10 or 20 or even a 50 slot drop... but without a penalty, an 800 slot drop must be temporary.

The problems I am seeing with PR, posted here:

    and here:

I feel give some weight to Caryl's theory.

I am hoping that Google does a PR correction over the weekend.

lol, msn is PR2. I wonder if they are pissed;) Hmm, may as well chime in here and say that none of this has effected my serps. I am still sandboxed like the past 7 month:( And the SERPs in my industry still have the same websites in the top 10, maybe just a little different order. Is weight lifting really that competative of a market that the SERPs are so fixed even throughout all this updating:eek:

Somehow I don't think MSN cares what their PR is. It really makes no difference at all to their level of traffic.

No, but the old sites are very old.

    Getbig.com - 1995
    Trulyhuge.com - 1997
    Bodybuilding.com - 1999

Wow, BB.com was registered years after the other two.. amazing. Getting past ancient sites like that is always tough. PM or rep-message me your site... this is a niche of mine and I'd love to take a look.

I really don't think PR makes a difference in any website's traffic. My PR stayed the same but my traffic from Google went down about 85%. PR updates are interesting, but actual rankings are a 'bit' more important. Unless of course, you make your money resulting from PR.

The funniest thing in Google is PR. It means absolutely nothing, it doesn't give you rankings and traffic, and all it can give you is PR LOL

So I was trying to figure out why people are so excited about the misterious PR. I think people just need something simple like that, it's like a competition, who has a higher PR ;)

And yes, I don't think The Poor Bill is very dissapointed about his site's PR loss.

May be PR is just a google's trick to get people trying to increase their site's PR instead of doing right things like adding content and relevant links?

What do you think of that?

People care about PR because it sets the price of your links. If you have a PR0 than no one is going to pay you to have their links up on your site. If you have a PR8, you can make a fair chunk of change just by selling links

PR does also factor into search engine rankings. It's just that it's only one of "more than 100 factors".

And it is my experience that you will see the effects long before PR updates anywhere public.

Somehow it seems to me that you know what you are talking about.
So would you mind to give some more details?

I can only think of few factors, like on page optimization (keywords..) and links. Is there anything else?!

    thanks
