My sites have alsorts of different link types coming in (LV, COOP, recip, one way, 3 way, 4 way etc etc).
Not all sites have all types of IBL's as of yet I can see no single link type that is common between my sites that have been hit and my sites that haven't.
One thing I am seeing is that on the sites that have been hit, there has been a massive increase in the number of pages indexed - and I mean massive. Such that I'm seeing 40K pages indexed on a site which I know only has 13K pages in it.

Could it be that somehow multiple indexes have got combined so we're hitting duplicate content filters ?
I know that it sounds daft, but you never know.

The thing that beats me is that for loads of people to drop their positions, it means that some people have to go up and I haven't heard many people here going up.

I shall now relax, and get on with things as normal, until it all settles down. No point in worrying about something you can do nothing about ;)

I think that's irrelavant. I got PR long before most of my KW came out of the "sandbox". In fact, even with quite a few PR4 pages, my most competitive KWs (that is, every KW with more than 1000 searches per month on the overture tool) are still N/A for Google and have never been in SERPs.

If it is hitting many (most) SEO's then you wouldn't hear about rises - normal people don't post in here and it seems to be hitting most of us.

Exactly....If only a few were seeing it, you may have to re-examine your SEO but it seems to affect most.

I am definately leaning towards a loss of data in advance of an update.

The other funny thing is one of my sandbox sites ranked #1 for "Free Article Submission" for 24 hours then quickly sunk back to the depths. This is definately "In Progress"

Initial speculation here is of Google weighting links differently - rankings from established links with semantic variation as having more weight.

This also means that internal links may be weighted far stronger, and that impermanent links (Co-op, etc,) and links in volume sharing the same keywords, as having less weighting.

That's my immediate thought on the basis of checking a few different sites for a few different keyword searches.

PR is completely independant of the 'sandbox'. I have PR5 sites that are firmly sat in the sandbox for SERPs - now if only ordinary users used allinanchor searches I'd be laughing.

Yeah I was thinking that. I just did a check to see which sites are in top 20, where I used to be top 5. All the smaller sites are gone. In their place are sites like Target, Amazon, MSN shopping pages etc

I see a bunch of GoogleGods way up in the fluffy clouds pulling on strings, making us dance while they watch and listen and laugh out loud.

very true of what ive seen about posters they have a thorough understanding of SEo or have even developed some tools for SEo , best bet is to wait and see mind you pretty hard ,
also metal peddler i agree with the state of kws in google, i get excellent kws in msn n yahoo as for Google seems to have outdated results sandbox if it is indeed one makes innocent designers seo ' suffer.

'webmaster resources directory' shot up over the past week for me... +125 for the month, +117 for the week, and +35 yesterday. KW tracker shows #39 yesterday, now sitting at #45, cache date of Oct. 15.

A check for allinanchor:webmaster resources directory shows http://www.netmidwest.com/cat23-2.html at #70, and as far as I know, there is no anchor with that phrase pointing to it. In fact, I don't believe there is a single external link to it. The page linked with that anchor, mostly from here and internally, shows at #86.

This tells me that Google is attributing the ranking to the page that has the link, not the page linked to, similar to what happened with the 302 redirect bug. I was reading some GoogleGuy quotes the other day that admitted there was a part of the algo that does this... for whatever stupid reason.

I am not in the coop, if that interests you. It does not seem to be related to recips, but I did buy a good sitewide almost 3 months ago. I also recently went thru and made certain all my pages were linking absolutely, some older ones were linked relatively, some had <base href= > tags.

One change I made on the webmaster resources directory was to move the text that is now above the button from below it. Same text, for the most part.

And the keyword tracker is giving me a 'unknown google server error' this morning. I hope I haven't wasted all my queries already for this 24 hours...

I think if major sites took over the serps it would kill Google.
