Has anyone read the "Google Secrets" eBook by Dan Sisson? Would it be a good resource for a beginning SEO/Internet marketer? Or is it simply a bunch of bollocks?
Most yanks are well aware of what bollocks are, mainly as a result of being forced by their girlfriends to watch sappy movies starring that wanker Hue Grant Cheers, -Andy
I have not read the book, but unless it is a frequently updated Ebook, I would say that while it might not be a 'bunch' of bollocks, theere are going to be a fair few 'bollocks' dropped in it. The web, & the google algo changes so fast, that by the time they get a traditional book to print, it is out of date. Just my opinion, I too could be talking bollocks
Think about it, are there really any secrets about Google that members of webmaster forums do not know already? They need to market the Ebook to a different market, folks that have been members of webmaster forums for more than a month do not need such a "Google secrets Book", all they have to do is read free threads if they are interested in more "Google secrets". Just don't go to WMW, unless you want to find Google PR Hype propaganda straight from the Google Public Relations Department, then you will need the Google secrets Ebook
My wife is a Brit. Does that entitle me to use "bollocks"? How about "pants"? Just don't ask me to touch my wife's "fanny" in public ... If you're a Brit, you'll know what I mean. Anyhow, they claim to update the eBook every quarter, with free updates for a year included in the $49 price. Here's the url if anyone wants to check out their spiel: http://www.google-secrets.com. I know I could acquire the same info if I spend enough time in webmaster forums. However, this approach is somewhat unappealing for me because 1) I have an awful memory and can quickly forget something I recently read--so I like quick access to material whenever necessary, 2) I am not the brightest bulb and often need things spelled out for me in a step-by-step manner, 3) if someone else has already done the legwork, and did a quality job, I'd rather access what they've researched instead of having to go searching for it on my own and then try to compile it all, 4) I like having a hard copy of info, so that I can read it when I'm away from my computer, and 5) I hate wasting time. Cheers!
we prefer a load of bollocks, and feel free to send Hugh down here anyday! How much is this book? And how much would you spend if you got some REAL inside knowledge that would really help? After all, you can get the traffic but they still may not buy when they get to your site. How much will you pay just to build the traffic? Sarah
Post number 7 sounds like part of the sales letter for the Ebook, thanks for the tip, but the last thing I would pay for in this world is more "Google Secrets", I give them away for free on my websites, want some go to www.webcenter.squarespace.com
Interesting first and second posts, seadragon. I recommend hanging out here. You'll find it's not that hard. Maybe in your sig you could put the url of the site you are optimising (brit spelling) and we could all chip in with our opinions. Print the thread out and you have the hard copy, customised just for you. Sarah
Hey Sarah, thanks for the encouragement. I created a site for a friend a couple of years ago. Not knowing what I was doing then, I of course embedded hidden text and did some other stuff to the site that, though these things were recommended then, I've learned are absolute no-nos now. I've recently gotten into SEO and learned that the site sucked for SEO purposes. Now I'm trying to optimise it. Here's the site: http://www.thebaileyhotel.com. Any and all advice is appreciated. David
