For those who think google is worried about the influence of their new politics for MFA sites on their revenues, pls check this out: "Google grew at an impressive pace during a seasonally slower quarter," said Eric Schmidt, CEO of Google. "We continue to deliver valuable new products and services to users around the world through our partnerships and investments in our business. Our strong performance results from our clear focus on increasing the quality of user experience, particularly in search and ads." Q2 Financial Summary Google reported revenues of $2.46 billion for the quarter ended June 30, 2006, an increase of 77% compared to the second quarter of 2005 and an increase of 9% compared to the first quarter of 2006. Google reports its revenues, consistent with GAAP, on a gross basis without deducting traffic acquisition costs, or TAC. In the second quarter of 2006, TAC totaled $785 million, or 32% of advertising revenues.†I think they would be able to manage this new situation…
The decision on MFA will be felt in the 3rd quarter. A week cannot effect financial performance of the last 3 months.
I must be missing something. Is there some new policy on google adsense? Are they cracking down on the types of sites that can display ads?
They are cracking down on adwords - raising many keywords to $10 etc, essentially driving the mfa and many affiliate sites out of business. Problem is, they also seem to be hurting many others along the way. I would love to know how this is affecting their revenues.
afaik, i believe that the google higher keyword prices are only happening on the search side of the fence, not the content side of the fence that we publishers are on. for the adsense noobs: google split up adwords advertising back in november of 2005, which gave advertisers a choice between advertising on the google search network, or advertising with the content network. the result has been that many advertisers have chosen to not use our publisher content network at all, because of the click fraud... so the pool of potential advertisers for your website has gotten a lot smaller. advertisers who don't mind the click fraud on our publisher websites are being rewarded with much cheaper keyword prices... that pricing reflects the inferior product that we are offering them. so the honest adsense publishers have gotten screwed over royally on this deal... and the TAC number quoted earlier is meaningless, because TAC is NOT publisher payout.
I think any effects of MFA to their revenues will be offset by their continued increases in market share from Yahoo and MSN.
