Google Search vs. Google Links

    I do a search for a subdomain (79 results)
I do a search for the links pointing to that subdomain: (3 results)

    I don't understand:
    1) When a mention of my subdomain is considered a (back)link?
    For instance:
    this is a backlink
    while
    this is not. Why?

    2) My subdomain is listed on a Wikipedia's page, for month now. Why does that link not appear neither in Google Search nor in Google Links?

This is interesting, the link on this page is to www.lunlun.com/wamp while it shows up in this query (to this url --> wamp.lunlun.com). Does google automatically associate folders with sub-domains? It seems logical from a server point of view but what does that say about doing rewriting of urls via .htaccess? or does it matter?

The easy answer (though perhaps false) about wikipedia or delicious links above is the rel="nofollow" tag which it seems that only google cares about. Just for the record, I do think they index those links (& count as partial backlinks), they just don't show up using the link: tool. They are very conservative with that anyways, why would they show a nofollow in their results?

That's exactly right. If you use the google webmaster tools they show ALL links, even the ones with nofollow. They're definitely recognized and indexed, but are ignored for user searches because they explicitly show a lack of trust from the source.

In my host's control panel, I have
    wamp.lunlun.com -> lunlun.com/wamp

Am I to understand that from 79 results, only 3 are backlinks?

Is it possible to make a backlink to yourself?
    Example:
    http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=link:www.linkedin.com
On the first results page, linkedin.com appears as a backlink to itself.

link: searches aren't just for backlinks from other sites. They are any links to a URL, including from within your own domain.

A more complete list of backlinks can be found in the Google webmaster tools and yahoo's sitesearch. Both will filter internal links if you choose.

In this case, a navigation link from one page of my site to another page from my site should appear in Google's link: search? Which internal links are considered "worthy" to appear on that search and which don't?
