has anyone else come across this incident where google bots will exposed password-protected files like Word, XLS, etc??? I find this quite offensive.

I posted an example and screenshot on the Profitimo.com forum

It's odd, but I have seen a few things run down like that. I'm not sure how the encryption is working necessarily, but I have seen google index some interior pages of messageboards, forums, and other "password" accessed pages.

    A) If you don't want something indexed or crawled by "any" web robot don't put it on the internet.

    B) You should password protect the directory NOT the file using .htaccess

    C) Password protected word documents are NOT encrypted, it's just a password that allows you to view the document, very easy to by-pass even by the average script kiddie.
