I keep searching for the key word phrase "poker is rigged" to find out where my site stands. It is on the front page but it keeps jumping from 6th to 5th to 8th etc etc. What is happening that is causing this to happen?

    Thanks for your replies.

I had mine do the same. The algorithm is probably matching those few sites that are fluctating very close to one another. I wouldn't worry about it. Keep doing more link building and if they are stagnant then you will hopefully eventually be able to keep your 5th spot and surpass it. :)

There is actually several things that can make this happen:

    - Addition of sites
As the crawler finds more sites / documents in a site the ranking gets adjusted.

    - Addition of links
As the crawler identifies more sites linking to your / your competitors sites, ranking might adjust

    - Change of Algorithm
As the ranking algorithm gets changed around, ranking changes.

    - Change of sites
Your competitors might be actively changing their sites / SEO, etc..

Nothing to do on your end, but build, build, build.

PS: Had a site of mine jump from result 4 to 120 and back... so, count yourself lucky.

This is completely normal. Exact positions can fluctuate by the hour even for very well established sites. If you watch the search engine results for your keywords, you will see all of the other sites (even the established ones) shifting positions from time to time. Nothing's permanent with Google.
