Hi all, I just noticed a big difference in Google search result page yesterday. Let me explain you. Almost all my keywords will have some locations like Irvine, California, New York and so many. I have my site listed in the first page dancing between 3rd and 8th positions. But yesterday I noticed that, when I Google search my keyword - xxxxxxx in california or keywords with some other location, the first page was occupied by many new sites who have already listed in Google maps. I have not added my site in Google maps yet, so I am pushed back to the second page for such keywords. Another point to be noted is that we get such Google maps listing only in the first page and not in 2nd or 3rd or any other page. 1. Is that the way Google is gonna continue or this is a trial? 2. Is it a something like ethical cheat by giving priority only to the sites listed in Google maps? Pls share your thoughts. Note: The location I used here is just an example. They are not the exact locations I use in my keywords. Cheers Haasan
According to an authorized blog from Google, they said they do 5000 experiments in a year. So, we can see a lots of SERPS changes within some time span frequently. While talking about localized and global keyword SERP changes, they always trust to authorized websites, if someone gives physical address and verify themselves through different authorized sources, most of the times it is obvious to have high SERPs. So, I would suggest you to take this as a important lesson and scan their work and implement it yourself. That's the major thing you should change yourself into SEO veteran. It's not always about backlink and content optimization.
I'm afraid this is not just an experiment. I believe it's going to stay like that from now on. Bad news for local SEO. I have a few sites that rely on local traffic so I will have to find a solution to this rather annoying problem. Damn Google!
@zexy, @valvetak47 - Thanks for your replies. I would like to have some one share a similar kinda experience in SERP. That would help us to get a clear picture and we shall start our site optimization on right direction.
I think, nowadays google places organic results into the google map(local business listing). For more information check out here http://www.seoservicesgroup.com/blo...vertising-channel-for-local-businesses/18955/ Because of this feature, you might be out of ranking for your keyword.
it is obvious that when you change the domain then Google will give different result for particular keyword. my site is also having different position in different domain.......so you have to choose first, where you have to target....
Zexy is right it,s a bad news for seo but there is a good news for those who has both (place page and website)optimized like you said , your website was on first page before this change and that means your site is optimized now the only thing you are missing is a place page on google map. but again now you have to go for a long run to optimize place page as well i have done this for many listings for my clients in US you can pm me for details
