Most of my visitors are coming through the "content network" (>90%) and I have a good conversion rate. Somewhere in this forum someone suggest that "content network" is useless. In my case it is not true. I think the fraud click also may be less with this. What do you think? sandy
Well content network traffic is usually known to have less conversions since there are many frauds going around on publisher sites and many blend in their ads too well, which causes many clicks to be by accident. That's great for you, if you are able to have better conversion rates with content network traffic.
If you target it properly, content network can perform just as well (or better) than search. You just have to be smart about targeting, ads, and bids.
Hi Johu What is the better way to go about targeting the right audience if we were to use content network? I am thinking of setting up an adwords campaign using site targeted keywords. How should we go about targeting the websites? Thanks.
Conversion also depends on your niche....Search network is always better because people are actively searching for what they want which isn't the case with content network...
There is this one method that I know of... that I believe would convert extremely well if done right. Its gotta do with 'Site Targeted' campaign. First ya gotta find websites that are HIGHLY related to your offer. Then setup your campaign and choose a CPM. (yeah, its pay per 1000 impressions). Then after that, zoom down to the INDIVIDUAL PAGES that are HIGHLY RELEVANT to the offer you're promoting (with Adsense, of course) , and type in their URL in your campaign. Reason for this is, targetting. Lets say you are promoting some Dog Training eBook. If you choose, lets say, www.dog.com (assuming it has Adsense), it isn't relevant to Dog Training. Whereas if you can zoom down to the page that says, "Puppy House Training', you'll be sure the visitors there are much more relevant. Yeah, thats the gist of how you can use Site Targeting. Hope it helps
Thanks. One more question. If I am using direct linking, would it be the same that only one URL will appear? Is there a limit for the number of sites that we can target? And can we write more than 1 ad for a set of sites that we are targeting? Thanks
I was wondering how are you tracking that your conversions are coming from the content network. Are you using any type of tracking software or are you appending a sub id such as the one below: {ifsearch:search}{ifcontent:content}
I manage a lot of accounts. Some of them run only on the search network (since the content network performs badly), some run on both networks, and one only runs on the content network (since it spends the entire budget, at a better ROI than search). It varies from campaign to campaign...
I'm surprised that you've had so much luck with the content network. I used to have both but since turning it off my conversion percentage has increased. Whats the secret!?
Never have a campaign running with content and search on the same. Seperate it out. Put lower bids on content. You'll be glad you did.
Content network can work for certain niches but you have to pick your sites carefully. In addition to picking quality and targeted sites to advertise on, you should make sure that the Adsense placements on those sites are above the fold. You're paying for impressions so you don't want to pay for an impression which never gets seen. When a user loads a website, your ad gets an impression even if the visitor does not see your ad. It's the same idea when buying banner impressions. Another tip is to go for the long tail keywords in your niche. Do a search for long tail keywords and write down the urls of all potential sites in the top 10 results which have Adsense on them. Although you may be generating less clicks, those clicks tend to convert at a much higher percentage than broader keywords.
