I didnt know you could earn money with a Google searchbox?

If you mean Adsense.... How many visitors do you have? Ya I earn a nice amount of money with Adsense, its definately possible if you have good ads, enough visitors, and a targeted website.

No exaggeration, but the AdSense Search to AdSense Ad units earnings in my case is a ratio worse than 1:100. I am keen to know if someone is making much more than that?
    Thanks

Agree. Remember when you use this feature you narrow the odds for a click.

User can search your domain or WWW. Then user clicks 'search'. User sees organic serps and adwords. User has choice to click organic (pays $0.00) or AdWords

Compare that to running a banner or text ad on your webpage(s)...1st click pays :)

I hardly make any money off of search, but include it on some sites because I think its useful for visitors to my site to be able to search.

I have my own search function on my website so someone can search my site w/o google. But if the search turns up empty, then I display the google search box pre-populated with the users search term(s) and have it set for www. I don't make a lot of money from the search results, but I make enough to have made the effort to have this working on my site worth it.

Almost nothing. I like to provide the ability, and I can see that a few visitors are using it, but not really getting anything from it. AdLinks do very well for me though.

I earn probably 10-20 times more with my ad units then with search. Which is strange being the CPM and CTR for search are dramatically higher then with the ad units.

Search is a nice way to ad another revenue stream to your site beyond just running ad units. However I doubt you could make a living off of search alone unless you had a tremendous amount of traffic.

Search is a big loser for me... I tried this out for a month and found I was sending away too many visitors for free.

I don't think anyone can argue that Google search does not convert that well compared to text ads. But it is often a convenient function to add to your site for your visitors. If you install it for that alone (which has value) then anything else is a bonus...let's face it your visitor leaves sooner or later anyways.
