I think a lot of that is because of the age of the domain. Registered in 1997. For a few years I didn't do very much to update it. The last time I tried to get back-links form other sites was I think in the 90s!!!! I just started working on it again last month, converting it to wiki so visitors can update it, ie new content added...for free!!! You can't get content any cheaper than free!!!
