Hi Friends, I live in Canada and my site is hosted in USA. I notice that for the keywords related to my niche, when I do a search at google.ca or google.com it lists my site in the first page of the search. Whereas if i do the same keyword search on google for some asian country india i.e. at google.co.in , my site is listed no where in the first 2-3 pages. So, I think Google's search algorithm gives preference to local sites first then international sites. Can someone please tell if there is any workaround to get around this so that the site is listed higher for those countries as well? Thanks
Country specific Google sites (ie google.ca) will give preference to sites that are hosted in that country as well as sites using the domain assigned to that country.
It has always been the case that Google selects search results for sites within a specific geographic region. If you do a search in Google you want to find only those results that are relevant in your region or you would be indudated with information from other countires which may not be relevant.
Yeah that's the question, so what's the workaround? Do you think buying a domain specific to that country and pointing it to your existing .com domain e.g. mysite.in pointing to mysite.com would help??
that's right.. but linking to those sites hosted on other countries really helps to get good rankings on that country.. and since canada is no that far from US the search result might not be too different...
Personally, I don't think just having a domain with a redirect is going to help but I do think it would help to get a country specific domain (if possible, host it in that country) and build a site with content catered to that country (language, if English, use proper spelling for that country (US/UK) ) and put a few links back to your main site.
Do you think that if your .com site is hosted in the US you have more chance getting good results than if your site is hosted in say England. I check Google.com in English but from Mexico and get good results for a few keywords - but when I check google through a US proxy server I found my sites were like on page 5! You think if I moved my hosting to the US it would make a difference?
Here is the factors that i know about for Google Local ranking: 1- Domain Extension .tld 2- IP Address of the hosting server 3- IP Location of the same 4- Website Language 5- Links from websites located and ranking in the same targeted area 6- Mentioning of the targeted country / area in your website backlinks profile (even around the link) 7- If you have any other tips, please don't hesitate to share with us. Hope i was clear and helpful
in UK : please use www.google.co.uk/ or add &gl=us to get the UK search reasults. in another country also like this.
Google give priority to local searches. But I think links can still improved SERP internationally if you get links globally.
Google use the SERP result from one of their many datacenter databases (which is call big Daddy datacenter). It is normal to see the result .
