Yes, the Google "sandbox" is where new sites are typically placed.

The sandbox can be up to 6 months for your site. If you have poor quailty pages .. lol

Hardley ever see that but it can be a long process. :)

How long do they stay there? In order to get out of it, should the website build themed, authoritative links thus building trust? How long would it possibly take?

Build your TrustRank. Build backlinks. That's the best way.

the google pagerank is a myth......

the reason why new sites don't rank immediately is because of domain age, link age, link maturity ect.

I think sandbox is there. In my opinion some new sites having potential keyword are placed in the sandbox for some time. sites making very fast back links may placed in to the sandbox.
Normally if you have expired domain name there are least chances that your site being placed in the sandbox.

Google sandbox can take more than 9 months.

The more competitive the keyword is, the more time it usually gets to leave the sandbox.

I had a site which never got into sandbox for a highly competitive keyword. Then I made some changes, which googlebot obviously did not like. It immediately went into sandbox.

I have undone the changes and am waiting in hope to see the site pop again ;)

Sandbox seems a myth, they just look for different things each time. When I started my site I didn't even bother looking for "competitive keywords", just wrote clean, simple code with content and had a 2 ranking in 3 months. However, the rank fluctuates every time the googlebot comes through whether I've made any changes or not, Sometimes its Up sometimes its vanished.

Personally, I just try to keep my site interesting. Seems most of the top ranked are those who pay big $$$ to be listed first.

Yes, because in sandbox, new sites are filtered for probation and once escaped, Google would put the site in the top SE rankings. :)

You don't need a sandbox to hold you down. there's a curve to the weight of domain age. Domains that are newer weigh so much less than older sites that they can't compete. That's all.

I don't know aht exactly it is meant by sandbox, but if it has to do with ranking for competitive term, then sure it can be difficult to rank quickly but you can still get traffic for less competitive keywords and unintended keywords that people search. My plan is to get all mys ites up by the summer and then start promoting them ratehr than build and promote one at a time. The longer your sites are up the better, I feel.

The sandbox is just a word. It's more about the function.

I'm not sure if my experience was of a "Sandbox" moment. About a year ago, I put up a new .org website which never appear in Google search for many months. Been asking here and there, and eventually found out that the problem was with the hosting company whose IP address was blacklisted in SORBs.

In my experience, I start with new domain and make content from the news but not all "competitive keywords" will be filtered, I can see some keyword from google to my site only 3-5 per days :(

    I agree with this.
One of my sites come out of sandbox just now, after 21month. My keywords are very competive.

said it once and gonna say it again:

one of my sites, huge competition, never got "sandboxed". :D

other sites of mine, competition zero, got "sandboxed" for some time now... they never pass the #50´s, #60's in SERP's. ;)

if there is a sandbox? really don´t know...
