Agreed, but not less than 30% of them no ways, this is for a targeted keyword for a targeted audience.

I have been thinking about this all day and have a theory why the searches do not add up..

There are local google engines such as google.co.uk and if your site is ranking well in .co.uk, it may not necesarily be ranking well in google.com .

More people use the .com and that may be the one google is using to measure the trafic with. So even though google may be reporting that there are 3100 searches per month in a specific country, it may only be counting the .com version of google being used in that country and not the local one example google.co.uk .

So if you rank well in the google.co.uk engine, you may only get a third of the traffic that is being reported, because most people use the .com version and that is the one google is tracking...

Anycase, thats my theory and I am sticking to it! ;)

Anyone with some data to show if the results are accurate?

I wonder how the people behind those paid keyword research tools will deal with this?

Will they manage to leverage Google's data in order to improve their services? Will they just rewrite their copy to try to show customers that their tools still are better? Or will their products eventually become obsolete?

Mate, of course the stats by default are for google.com (USA). Do you see the Results are tailored to English, United States Edit

Change it to whatever location you want. The results will be different. Google is tracking everything, just change the way you look at the data and you will get what you want :D

Bottomline is look around and you will find many hidden things :p

It is interesting to see the totally different stats put forward by Google's own tool, and wordtracker, seobook tools.

The keyword [seo] gives 90,500 searches English, US - by Google.
and wordtracker gives around 50,000 - as Google estimates 1746/per day (tch tch tch...how wrong were these tools :p

its packup time for these tools unless they come up with some thing real informative and innovative.

    I totally agree..

I also assume that since this is a new "service" introduced by Google into the adwords external tool the results are probably not very accurate (even though they are probably based on huge amounts of search data), but I think that they will get more and more accurate with time..

Anyway - Google has just conquered another frontier.

The only reason that people used wordtracker/overture/adlabs.msn/SEO Book keyword tools was that Google wasn't offering anything competitive..

No doubt that getting search data from the big G itself is by far the best...

    Wow, this is showing now!

    Absolutly fantastic.

This has made up my mind about word tracker, espicially when it claims one search term sends 90 people a day and google mentions 30 people a month! A bit of a difference.

If you're talking about Google traffic estimator then it wasn't ideal at all..

Google traffic estimator shows an estimate of PPC clicks for a given keyword with a given bid - totally not the numbers that we wanted.

We wanted raw search data.. and now we can get it :)

Yep, been testing it right now and you're right. Although some of my searches are almost equal cause they have a huge CTR... and they look almost the same in 2 tools.

    Found this yesterday, too.

The numbers are really high but there may be some reasons for that.

Many visitors click on the Advertisers as well, not just the organic results. So:

    - Ranking Number 1 receives approximatelly 40% percent of click throughs, when No advertisers are considered.
    - However, there are usually several advertisers competing for that same traffic, let's say an average of ten.
    - Moreover, the more competitive the term, the more paid results, sometimes spreading for several pages.
    - The most competitive terms have up to 3 three Additional paid results Before the #1 organic result.
    - Those 3 results above are even Highlighted, getting even more clicks from the #1 organic result!
    - With 3 paid results on top of #1 organic this #1 is now #4 on the page, getting from 40% down to only 5% approximatelly!

That may partially explain why most of us who have #1 rankings for competitive keywords are not getting even close to the numbers Google Adwords is providing. Also it suggests that the more competitive the term, the smaller the share your #1 organic result will get from the number the AdWord tool is providing. On the other side, low competitive terms, with few or no advertisers, the closest your #1 organic will be much closer to Google's numbers. But then, no point of ranking #1 for a low traffic, low competitiveness term that is probably also not lucrative as well.

Google can now provide those numbers because they are getting the "cream of the crop". Not us.
