This page explaining the Secrets to beating the sandbox is also very informative and a nice contribution to Aaron's post.

I found it a nice read. Also contains some nice links to articles about link baiting which of course is helpfull to acquire new links to help you to get out of the sandbox.

Very nice read, thanks for sharing aaron,
well i am ranking 2 for term "gamecheats" in allanchor: command and rank on page 6 for term "game cheats" this second term is highly targeted and high overture.Well if being on page number 6 means that iam not in sandbox any more then i would say it only takes 5-6 months to get out of sandbox as my site is 6 months old only.

now i'm curious what if your site is not sandboxed and you have a keyword that doesn't have alot of searches per month.. Then all of a sudden something happens in the media and the search term explodes and for serveral months it becomes a hot topic, does a site get moved to the sandbox that did well for that term in the past or does it stay the same? I've personally never had any luck with Google really, but have done always well with Yahoo and MSN so i don't really know how this works with google's setup..

I would not think you need to worry about that. Obviously, if a search term becomes popular, there will also be more competition for it, so you may loose ranking. I would not call that a sandbox though, just the way the web goes.

The sand box is a myth created by bad SEO's

It does dot exist I got my seobook.org.uk domain listed #5 in just 8 day's after register and I am still there 4 months later.

I never have any problems with the sand box myth

That really doesnt prove anything. The term "SEO Book" is not competitive at all and you can rank very easy for that term. The sandbox only applies to competitive keywords.

    I love these Sadbox discussions.

    1. Before you build your site, or register the keyword doamin name, have a check what the PPC is for the keywords, do you really think PPC and sandbox are unrelated?
    2. How long have you regsitered your domain name for? anything less than max, and forget it, better to buy a new domain name and start again (or get a job!)
Even better buy an expired domain that has a cached website that has expired and regsiter that for max, but again carfull where you host.
    3. what is the extension. Don't buy a .com and expect to just to the top of "london Hotels" within six months
    4. Where is it hosted. Host close to your main target audience.
    5. Links again buy links from where your target city is if possible
    6. Rember most of all.................................................

No website or domain has EVER been sandboxed.
it is the inbound links that are reduced in strength by the algorhythym time factor

The sandbox is part of the G Algo that reduces the percentage and weight of a link for a particular and profitable PPC search term.

Fire enough PR from the right sites with good trustrank (which rules out 90 % of bought links) from the right IP address on local clusters and there is no sandbox.
For anyone who says there is read over 1 - 6 again and this is what is stopping you, no sandbox.

There is a time restraint on the algo, and it does loosen it's grip and not choke the inbound links, but there was nothing stopping you getting there 12 months before if the site/ link/ registration link were planned

Good point, I think that it really does depend quite a bit on how competitive the keywords are that you are targeting.
