I think the general opinion is that the sandbox applies only to competitive words and that usually happens after a while, the first weeks you usually gets a boost...

I have to see it happen with any site that I have launched (touch wood) and the most recent blog that I put up appeared in the index within 48hrs and ranked #1 for its title - pity its a phrase that wont bring traffic

As lars said it can usually happen after a while and I would guess its when Google has learned enough about the site they can make the decision to trust it or not but again I havent seen it.

I think that an algorithm exists that prevents certain growth and depends on site and link age, but I got PR 4 throughout my alternative energy site in less than 2 1/2 months. I think that your mentality is the only limiter for your site. Granted, you will not be a digg.com in a few weeks, but if you take the right approaches, you can drive your site right out of the sandbox.

I believe Matt Cutts confirmed the exsistance of a filter. My opinion from personal experience is the sandbox is an aging filter placed on inbound links. This results in a new site not ranking for high competition keywords. The new site usually is just starting to build up inbound links and because of the filter these links are not given weight for a period of time. So in the eyes of Google the new site will not have any inbound links till the filter expires.

PR has nothing to do with sandbox. If you buy a PR6 link for your site, then you can easily have a PR4..

My site is 6 weeks old and id say its currently sandboxed, i susspect however that it might be supressed due to duplicate content, ie: www.domain.com and www.domain.com/index which im trying to rectify at the moment.

I am ranking very well on MSN and nr 6 in the search term when you use the "allinachor:" filter. However im not even in the top 100 of that term without the filter!

The sandbox usually happens after Google has teased you with some search traffic.

Thats great. What search term? The sandbox only kills ranking for high competition terms.

For competitive keywords, you need 6 months to start gaining SERP. For others as soon as you are indexed
