Recently there was some buzz in the blogosphere (if I'm using the term properly) about how Google advertises its own services using the AdWords/AdSense system. Some people are upset about it because it was at first believed that it wasn't possible to outbid Google and rank higher in the listings. Several counter-examples were presented against that assumption, but some still gripe about the idea, assumably because of the way they think money should move. Google has responded this week saying that they use the same system, managing campaigns to bid on keywords or site-targeted impressions, as its other advertisers. Personally, I think it just makes any set of listings look more qualified, having the effect of people not hating the ads (; The policy about only displaying one ad sharing the same display URL, does that apply to content? As far as I can tell, that rule only applies to search, but I don't know how it's accomplished. I have attached a screenshot of Google accomplishing it. Discuss maybe!
if you look at adsense, they introduced a new idea of giving premium space to high clicking ads. My site, has a lot of these single block ads. Its also not done by google. The adsense blog link: http://adsense.blogspot.com/2005/08/fewer-ads-more-money.html Pierce
