So today i'm seeing stats that I was seeing a month ago, relating to site placement, backlinks, etc. friend of mine is seeing same thing... Anyone seeing something different than what they should be seeing? Thanks.
Yeah, my traffic was tripled on the 13th, 14th and 15th, then today the 16th, it just dried up to nothing. Worst I have seen yet.
Check out my post about weird late last night results here: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=179093 From what I have seen when they do updates/rollbacks/downgrades or whatever it is, is that if you see a sudden influx of traffic then the difference between the new traffic and what it was before, then that is the traffic that will be what you get after they are done. To me it seems that they mix old results with new results and when the old are gone, then all you have are the new influx of traffic.
Im not seeing any change in traffic? Surely it would happen to every site if they are doing these updates/rollbacks whatever you call it?
Nope... I don't have anything that verifies this but my belief is that they do it by content groups, i.e. if you have site about travel they go through everything about travel, keywords, and anything that has to do with that area. They filter the sites through many different filters and spits it out on the other side with their updates as new SERP's. They need to concentrate on different areas to narrow down spam and other things they need to look at before they accept the changes. If you are in an area where there is a lot of spam sites/scraper sites then you can be sure that you will be targeted one day with the updates/rollbacks.
With "in an area" I mean that if you have a site about Travel then you are in that area/content realm and I am pretty sure they go from "Travel" to start with and then, maybe "Travel Agencies" and so on. If there is money in an arear then there are spam sites targeting that area. If there are spam sites then Google wants to get rid of them and applies a filter to remove them from the search result (not from their index though) and if you happen to have something on your site that triggers the filter then your site will be affected also.
my main site that is effected, was climbing up serps quite nicely until Tuesday. I dunno if it is just a temp thing or not, sure hope it is, i've done nothing wrong and put a lot of work into it... hmmm
Things have been stable on my end for quite some time. Thanks for the head's up as I am certain that will all change. Yikes...
funny thing is, my stats relating to backlinks, placement, and such are what they were a month ago, yet my indexed pages are up, my link popularity is up, etc. quit odd...
This seems to be a cyclic thing. Around the 20th of October, my SERPs and Traffic took a HUGE increase, the biggest I have seen yet. I was loving life... for a few days. Then after about 3 days, it all just came to a crashing halt. After another week or so, it started to go back to it's previous normal level. Then again on Nov. 13th, another spike in traffic - loving life again... for a few days. Then on the 15th at night, it came crashing down to nothing. Hating life ... hopefully for a few days only.
