Hi - I have a new website that has been up for about a month with three inbound links. MSN has picked up my website pretty quick and looking at my webstats it appears that google has too..... 13 visits from google bot in last week. Although when I type in www.mydomain.com into google - nothing!!!! Is this just that google is being selective and not chosing to index my site. Could it have something to do with the fact I have adsense and that when I am seeing stats that google has visited my site through the hosting site, it is actually part of adsense and not relevant to indexing? Overtime, Google bot will index your site. It will also start to visit your site for new pages. Do you have a sitemap?
Just because Google has visited your site, it doesn't mean that your pages will appear in its index immediately, if at all. Plus there are two different crawlers: Mediapartners-Google/2.1 - This is the Adsense crawler, which will attempt to fetch a page serving Adsense if it hasn't already, so it can decide which ads to serve. Googlebot/2.1 - The crawler that, eventually, produces the main Google search results.
I realise that I am not necessarily going to be indexed just because googlebot has visited my site, but am just extremely curios as to why my webstats show that goglebot has visited my site 99 times in the last month. I am with oneandone hosting and I can not find which version of googlebot has been visiting my site. With so many visits, is it safe to say that this the "Mediapartners-Google/2.1" as previously mentioned. Does this seam a normal amount? (I have also applied for Google sitemap although this has not worked. Its status stays at pending verification for a few days, then its status is as if I have not applied, asking me to verify - there is no indication that I failed the previous attempt.) The sitemap application and adsense could perhaps explain some of the visits, I don't know.... Any explanation would be greatly appreciated, Joe
