Hiya, I am wondering is it common for your homepage not to turn up in google for your strongest search term but other pages from your website do? My search term is 'India Reynolds Model' and if you look on the second page you can see results from my website [indiareynoldsmodel(.)com] however they are 'page/2' or 'page/3' not the homepage? Could anyone give me some information on why? Thanks,
As per the latest update by Google, most of the inner pages other than homepage, shows up higher in the search rankings. I have also experienced the same stuff in my blog's search results. However you atleast can find the homepage, I cannot find my homepage at all except the inner pages or even the contact and about me page
Oh right, Do you know where i can find information on this update from google's website direct? Thanks,
ya, the rate at which google changes things is crazy. I have noticed it as well espeically with some big websites. I have seen some competitors taking up from 1st to 3rd or 4th positions on first page with a home page and then other pages ranking.
I have always seen home pages showing up strongest. Just search any term and you will find that usually home pages show up highest in the SERPS.
There are lots of reasons your interior pages could be showing up in search results (instead of your home page): 1.) Targeted content: The interior page may have more targeted content. This could cause on-page factors (like title, H1 tags, keyword density, etc.) to be more closely related to the search term and also more valuable. 2.) Internal linking structure: If you have links throughout your website pointing to the interior page, and those links include keywords in the link text, it could improve the rankings for that page. 3.) Backlinks: If external websites are linking to your interior page (because of high quality or useful content), then it could improve the rankings of this page. To be honest, you should be happy any of your pages are ranking for your chosen keyword. Maybe it's worth considering optimizing this page so that it converts the traffic better? Otherwise, all you can do is try to build more links to the home page and hope it overtakes your interior page...
It seems like they use all the ranking metics to assess where the domain should rank and then they recrawl the domain to find the most relevant internal page. I've internal pages ranking for pretty comeptitve two word phrases but the pages themselves have not external links.
Maybe the inner pages are more related to the search term. They might contain more keywords and text. However, I have only experienced this problem with new sites, once the site gets a few weeks/months old it will show up as normal.
Surely, that result is entirely according to Google algorithm. And even every age of a site that has the same or related keywords are competitors on ranking. On your case, it might just due to your inner page content match better on the search term compare to your homepage.
