Google Results Not Good

We have all been reading the posts lately from people touting MSN Search or Yahoo! Search as returning more relevant results than Google these days. The last couple of nights I have been looking for a lot of car related information and I have to say that Google is way off base with their results. One of the searches I just did was for 17" alpina wheels . Searching for that on all three SE's provided crap results on G and similar results on MSN and Yahoo. I have found that the other searches I have been doing the last two nights have returned similar results. Anyone else seeing this for a particular search segment?

Hard to say, I am not an expert on Apina Wheels, but I found some in on the first page in a Google search. I guess it depends on what you are looking for. Did you try phrasing your search different? I've not really had a hard time finding relevant results for my searches, unless it was something really obscure like "how to avoid lake geneva property taxes". Seriously though, I have not really seen any crap results in Google that I did not see elsewhere.

I was looking for an RFC that states that you should use a "host name", not an IP for an MX record, and found it in the first result on Google. That was my big search for they day. Oh that and how the hell to get into a Baystack switch. I got relevant results for that as well, but none of them helped me. I was using an xover on my console cable and should have been using a straight through, but I digress... Anyway.

well, I think this is a pretty simple search, which is why I mentioned it here. Alpina for all of the BMW fans out there only makes one set of wheels that I know of in a 17" wheel. I think the most relevant page for that search would be a page on the alpina website that talks about these wheels, second would probably be a page that discusses them in detail (probably on a site selling them). I found that on Y! and MSN, but not on G. Just seems like Y! and MSN are better in the automotive field right now from the searches I have been doing lately.

Well most folks say get a billion links and you will be number 1, but I ain't gota go for that crap. Google's results have been screwed for a lot longer than most understand and have been diluted with a greater cross section of sites for most keywords for a very long time.

Many think that this forces webmasters to buy Adwords to get action and they are correct. Money talks, bullshit walks holds true today as it did yesterday.

Perhaps, but Alpina still seems a bit obscure to me (lets be cool and call it "elite".) Hey, I'm both a Bimmer and a Beemer fan, and I know the difference between the two. Anyway, perhaps you've touched on something. Maybe you should make a nice SEO driven content based site about Apina wheels?

Ultimately Google is not gonna be perfect 100% of the time. If you cannot find it there, look at MSN/Yahoo, whatever.. That is why I have always been a fan of Dogpile. They bring up results from all the SE's under one roof. So if I cannot find it in G, I just let DogPile look at everything.

Well GG is not that bad - i like to go there sometimes, reminds me of me childhood, early days of the internet when they made us believe that Google's engineers are smarter than the NASA's .... when they made us believe that it is noooooo not at all about money.

However it is fun to type some keywords and find ridiculous results, fake blogs built to rank higher (ohhh yes of course blogger.com is own by google) etc...

Come on : MSN and Yahoo
stop thinking like Google wants you to think, they screwed up everything with their PR by the way. :)

As i said i used to love GG and im still working on it of course, when my clients rank well on Google and benefit from this huge traffic i'm happy...and so far i see more and more traffic from MSN in their logs ....way to go.

From the user point of view, i really don;t find what im looking for on Google. I hope everything will go better soon...in the mean time, i got used to MSN and i like it.

I typed in "alpina wheels 17.inch" and got lots
of quality results. Maybe you just need more
    training in your searching.

Or maybe you are a google competitor trying
    to muddy the waters? :p

Mia, thanks for reposting my post with your stupid comment (Post # 7), would not want you to go a day without making at least one silly post.

That post was about as original as your eBay page, you know the one where your sister sold a lot of stuff on eBay

PS: double posting just to act like an idiot is not desired by management here Mia........

What the hell are you talking about? Grow up.

You're not the "management." You continually insult me and others on regular basis on and off this forum. You continally start arguments, and name call, and your rep is indicative of your behaivor.

Having any type of reasonable discussion with you is pointless because you all want to do is argue and insult. I'm pretty confident I am stating the obvious. That said, you are on my ignore list. Please leave me alone, and try for once to be a bit kinder to others.

You should ask that question to yourself, but it should be "What am I talking about"
