    Rubbish.

I read an article some weeks ago saying there will be no PR update and an officer from Google announced it.

On the 30th of October we encountered a PR update and i will know that better since i sell HIGH PR links.

To my opinion PR will continue to update since PR is important for pages to crawl in the SERP.

If PR is removed by Google then they won't stay number 1.

Number 1 for whom- regular consumers or webmasters?

    There's a big difference.

And no, I don't think it would negatively impact Google to a high degree.

It seemed strange to me and almost hypocritical that they removed it from WMT's and said it was a "hint" to webmasters to not worry about PR, but then leave it in the toolbar.

Google later confirmed toolbar PR would remain (for now).

Not sure how they would get rid of PR from the toolbar tbh because it has a good following and gathers lots of data for them.
They would need to replace it with something else, but not sure what.

    Cheers

ACTUAL PR will continue and was NEVER shown to the public. Toolbar PR has caused Google more problems then good, so removing it wouldn't be a problem. I believe they are doing it gradually. Starting with no PR on Google Chrome and now webmaster tools.
I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE IT GO! It has no effect on the SERP's and I'm tired of reading threads from obsessed webmasters who spend every moment of their day trying to increase it!

constant, new up dated content > PR.
My blogs have zero PR but rank very high in SERP for competitive keywords just by publishing alot.
I think PR is becoming less and less important, because if its not protecting position 1/2/3 in SERP, what is it there for?

System without PR can be just more honest. Quality content is much more honest factor than SE spamming with all unsolicited links on our blogs and websites.

PR don't mean a thing. I hope Google do remove it, that way there won't be so many people advterising link space on High PR sites that are actually low quality.

Yeah there needs to be some sort of evaluation and rating of the site. and PR is a great idea. Perhaps it should be tweeked a bit not to be affected so much by black hat seo work. And then it would come into good value as it was few years ago.

PR is never going to die. Google will not leave that.
