I guess the webmaster of this site is really getting his back done at the local BMW torture shop.

I wonder if this effects those that link to them.

I'm dissapointed that Matt has publicised this really. This blogs entry seems to be more about creating 'linkbait' then anything else.

the site was using a cloaking technique not allowed!
It is NOT what you click on the link or type into the browser that is wrong.
It is the simple and plain fact that the search engine did NOT see the main page, but rather a long text message!
That is two different things, what you see and what a search engine sees.

Not only BMW.de here in Germany.

Also Automobile.de and Ricoh.de and more others (and one noncommerial Photoshop Website) Google now is cleaning us in Germany.

Here is the statement from Automobile.de (only in german language):
    http://www.automobile.de/cgi-bin/deeplink.pl/praesenz/automobile/google-stellungnahme.html

I think it all began with one Thread in the German Abakus Forum from 11.11.05, G.Adwords- and Adsense Advisor are there in this Forum, they read it and reportet it to Google - I think so.

It's cloaking, not noticeable when you visit the site. Basically it means showing different results to SEs than you would other visitors.

well at least google dishes it out equally to one and all, irrespective of size or clout :

    Google blacklists BMW.de

    By Tom Espiner, ZDNet (UK)

Google has blacklisted BMW.de after the carmaker violated the search giant's guidelines by using a technique that could artificially boost its search engine rating, according to a Google engineer.

In a blog, Google software engineer Matt Cutts said that Google had removed BMW's German site (click here to view site) from its Web index after the site included "doorway pages" that would automatically redirect visitors to a different URL.
