Either way, for those that dont have tools to check their own backlinks its a nice feature that Google added.
There was a little glitch that allowed you to see other sites backlinks, it's been fixed. http://blog.outer-court.com/archive/2007-02-06-n21.html
Log in to your Sitemaps account. Drill down on one of your sites and you will then see a tab titled "Links" Hope this helps
google sitemap is being better day by day . it was a great tool for webmasters . with this tool , it has become greater tool
Sure, but I am talking about the tool being wildly and hopelessly innaccurate - the majority of my backlinks actually being nonexistent, while almost none of my high-PR links showing. Kind of strange, is all I'm saying. In its current state it isn't useable, by me at least, but I guess it is still being tested. As someone else noticed, at the time of writing the tool was unavailable.
I don't think it's inaccurate but won't get into a debate on that subject, not enough hours in the day. The tool was takien down for a awhile while I glitch was worked out...all that was covered in this thread as well.
Barry posted an update that consolidates a lot of the forum discussion and feedback relating to this tool - good stuff. http://www.seroundtable.com/archives/007439.html
I don't know if the tool is accruate or not but it gives me a lot more backlinks than any other tool I've used and that is good enough for me. one other thing I like is seeing other indexed pages that I haven't tracked before and their links.
Verification status: NOT VERIFIED Our system has experienced a temporary problem. I had already added my site months+ ago (still there!) and my guess is the reason i gave up is because of what is (still) ^ happening. I see the links tab, bfd can't use it. Useless. Verifying w/yahoo long ago took nothing & i don't even have any 'real' account w/them. Also this is telling me they last indexed in december, quick site: check on google shows that to be ahh.. way off. "Googlebot last successfully accessed your home page on Dec 14, 2006." ... in reality it was just a couple of days ago "No pages from your site are currently included in Google's index... " Again, incorrect i guess that 10's of thousands of pages indexed is just smoke & mirrors (& no it's not all supp ffs) I already have adwords & adsense transferring money back and forth (all connected to the same gmail acc) wtf do they want me to do fax them my birth certificate? I'm looking forward to the day *this* problem is solved and i come the quick realization of the waste of time it was & yahoo or even a combo of other lesser engines & services showing more robust information If i had a dime for every time i've ran into a system error or failure from a google service (mmm adwords) i'd be making more then i do off adsense.
THat was the initial thought although in the other thread similar to this one, people are reporting it varies wildly.
my site would not verify either for some reason. I wrote to g and was suggested to use the meta tag code, it verified right away.
For my site the results are very different Google webmaster tools backlink checker - 128 000 links "link:" operator - 4 500 links
I think the tool is great, google is showing you all thinks they know about. But just like the rest of the webmaster features, everything is done on a monthly basis, so what ever links you are seeing now is what google found last month. Either way it is better than waiting for the next google update to see what you have. My only gripe with it is the same one I have with yahoo, both of these tools have failed to set up a system that will allow you just see the .com's I do not like having to keep clicking the next button in order to get next set of url's it takes forever. They should set it up so it shows you how many links you have from each website and then allow an additional link to see all the links from that site. It would be much easier if they did that way.
some of the links I'm seeing are way off, in completely irrelevant forums and such, and when I click and search, my link's not actually there
