I just posted on my blog that Google has announced they are releasing Google Real Time Search. Apparently the real time search results will be displayed in a box like other results that appear when a keyword search is done. Google was only going to let Twitter and Facebook go for so long till they swooped in....... Is this a good or bad thing considering Googles history of failure outside their core search engine???
The deal will help Twitter because if their results start to show up instantly for important news events it will help them gain traffic. Picture an important news event (Hudson plane crash maybe) and people start pumping Twitter with updates and their results show in the top few results. Big traffic spike for twitter.
Seems like "Real Time" basically means showing Twitter results...unless there are other sites like twitter in this feed style of results? Either way, seems a bit silly to just show another networks results and claim its real time search.
They also signed agreements with Facebook and Myspace to display updates from pages that are indexed and published.
Like another thread mentiones here it can get alittle excessive with both the news result and the live results at the same serp. And when theres also 3 top ppc listings a regular surfer with a 17" will only see 1 organic result.
There's nothing wrong with trying and trying to make things perfect, besides Google's aiming for a better service like in times of emergency or a foregoing accidents, the news spread incredibly fast.
