Google related searches only good for big players ?

    I believe you have noticed "related search link" on 1st page of Google search results.

    I have a site that rank between #8 and #12 for one popular search.

    And even when it would be on 2nd page, it would get some visitors.

    But after Google added that related search thing, it seems that number of visitors from 2nd page is in huge drop, probably because people are clicking on that related search links and dont go to 2nd page.
    And as those searches are related same sites are in circle and getting more clicks, what do you think about this ?

    Now its even more importaint to be listed in the top 10 serach results. Related searches will keep users within the top results for many keyword combinations. I see this feature forcing many sites to start using for agressive, or dare I say blackhat SEO.

    just in passing... this is from a white paper study last year;

    That’s a full 62% of users not going past the 1st page of search results

    Furthermore, varied research tends to show a user preference for organic results over paid/sponsored listings in the area of 60-75%. That is nothing to sneeze at. This means your PPC endeavors are scratching and clawing against the competition for a mere 25% market share. Not an appetizing thought. The trust factor is playing heavily in this decision making as merely 14% of end users trust sponsored results. A full 29% are actually ‘annoyed’ by them.

    I hope that carries things along for U

    Yahoo has been doing this for years. I've found that you can optimize pages for organtic SEO that use a three keyword phrase from the related search links and have a much better chance of a top 10 than duking it out for a one or two word phrase. With out a doubt sales are always better from longer key phases that are more specific to the visitor as well.

    Phrases are much more useful. Find one specific one rather than a vague keyword

    I've also noticed that the related links phrases in the big three engines do improve related keyphrases as I have been tracking over 100 phrases in wordtracker and keyword discovery as they appear in my vertical. For some reason many webmaster and SEO's are slow to pick up on this. More good ranking for the rest of us.;)
