    Hi All,

What are basic stats for Google rankings? I'm wondering what the difference would be been placed 1st and 2nd in Google in terms of traffic.

Similarly, what does it mean to be on page one compared to page two for a search term. I understand that the figures will change when considering certain terms and key phrases, but are average figures that can determine the amount of traffic increase one could expect?

I read somewhere it was like 40, 20 & 10 percent depending on the search phrase for positions 1, 2 and 3. Its kind of hard to test this but maybe other engines have released this information.

Yeah, what freespace said is right. On a general note, a good majority of the searches will go to the 1st term, and decrease respectively and continuously for the next few positions.

Although it depends primarily on the search term, a very small percentage will therefore end up in the lowest positions of the first page.

A sample progression would go like this:
    1st position - 50%
    2nd position - 25%
    3rd position - 10%
    4th position - 5%
    5th position - 2.5%

    and so on...

Site seen at higher position is according to entered query and information related to that query. Site which has similar word as query and which has unique and exact related information to query will show at top position. And this result depends on search engine algorithm set to provide relevant search information to user.

None of us can say for certain as to what we should really do to get the top spot. We can keep guessing. We might become good guessers but that can only be after a long experience and after making a lot of mistakes and learning from them. But still we can't be accurate.

Yes we can not think for the exact word as for user query. But sometime just by guess we can reach at our destination , though we have to face problems but we can learn from it, and can reach to more success.

It depend on Key Phrases.. If key phrase is very good and highly competitive den u will get good visits on your site if u r on first rank... As same if u r in first page of top kw, ur ratio of visit is higher. On second page it too low to first page... u can say from starting to first place to 10 th place.. it geting down..

I also prefer to Key Phrase's & Google developed its page ranking system in an effort to increase the quality of search results and has left all of its competitors for dead & also Google Page Rank is based on how many links you have to and from your pages, and their respective page rank.
