Hi I manage many sites but one is most important to me both financially and professionally. It is 13 years old, with over 500 pages of unique, quality content and is maintained daily for information currency. It has 2500+ links - none paid and I have disavowed about 20 domains that were linking. In one of its two main keyword strings the home page ranks in 6th place - however in the other main keyword string (or any derivation) for 12 months I have struggled to make top 50. And yet I find absolute rubbish, cheap sites with content cut and paste from www.news.com.au/ ranking in 15th place. The site is www.peachhomeloans.com.au - I am completely baffled with this and out of 'white hat' ideas.
I guess I am looking for suggestions on something I might have over-looked. I am stumped that I can do so well for one keyword and ordinary on another, based on the same page.
Yes Isaac - that is the case however it doesn't explain how the complete rubbish site - and I do mean rubbish are 30 positions higher. They have loads of crap back links but isn't that supposed to invoke penalty rather than success?
Sites with fresh content promoted higher in the search rankings for some relevant & optimized keywords for a while and once they lose their popularity and once Google starts thinking that its either of little or no use for the users it will drop the ranking of that page. Wait for a while where authority and credibility of the page will help it get back its rankings. Spammy practices will definitely not help. Be organic and be of help to your users.
If the phrase(s) you're trying to rank well for aren't competitive (that is, few other sites are using the same phrase) then getting good placement is pretty easy: Just put the phrase(s) you want to rank well for in the <title></title> tag and in at least one other area on the page. For some reason this isn't obvious to everyone: I can't remember how many times someone has sought my advice about how to rank well for some phrase, and I check out their page and that phrase is nowhere to be found! A while back a friend asked me how to get her homepage to rank well for her name, which was unusual enough that she should have been at the top of Google with no problems. After I checked out her page I felt like asking her, "And it didn't occur to you to put your name somewhere on that page?!" Actually, her name was on her page, but in a graphic. Google can't read that, they have no idea what words are contained in an image.
I have played around with keyword density increasing and decreasing - Part of my problem appears to be that the key phrase "home loans" is in the company name and therefore gets mentioned and as a result Google appears to ignore it - Webmaster tools doesn't even list 'home' or 'loans' in the top 40 content keywords and yet key phrase analysis shows "home loan" having a 5%+ density and "home loans" 2%+
This is an excellent thread because a lot of folks have pages on their sites that position well. If you afraid to fix your SEO content, then just have a look, • The SEO copy may be "Borderline Spammy." • Your content may not have the right tone and feel. • Conversions may be low and bounce rates may be high. • Determine how to best rewrite the content. • Upload the content and monitor rankings. Thanks
Chances are you're over optimising either on the backlink profile or more likely with your on page. You should reduce your keyword density and add more content to that particular page. Make sure the content is incredibly high quality and possible add images and videos to it. Check the image names aren't over optimised either. Good luck.
