hey, Does anyone know if buying aged domains and redirecting them or parking them to a young domain will increase your rank in google? 2. Does the domain need to be niche related? I'd guess so.. 3. Any stories anyone have about it.. Sorry if this is the wrong section of the forum or if this is posted already. Thanks~ Joe
It did a while back but I haven't tested this out in over a year now. You use to be able to do this and it would pass on the link profile and you could get a good push in the SERPS for it.
I just redirected a site and was a little surprised with the result. I had site A and site B. They were both in the same industry and both 6 years old. For a 3 word phrase site B ranked #4 and site A ranked #7. For a 4 word phrase, site B ranked #9 and site A ranked #1. I 301'd site B to site A. The result was that for the 3 word phrase, site A took site B's old place at #4. For the 4 word phrase, Site A remained #1. It's tough to follow I know, but if you go through it slowly it will make sense. PS: I know Maywood, NJ. I'm in the Westwood area.
I redirected an old site to a new one a few days ago. Old site was ranking around result #1-#9, new site around PAGE 3-10 of the serp for various keywords. At the moment, the old site is nowhere to be seen in the results AND neither is the new one. For one of the keywords where the old site was at #1, the new site actually ranks at #15, which is the highest rank I've seen yet. I hope it changes soon - the old site was tiny and was getting around 15k visitors a day and rising rapidly after the farmer update, the new site is so much better and was lucky to get 2k. I suspect the old site was causing a massive penalty to the new one and stopping it from ranking, as some of the content overlapped. Meanwhile, I'm losing about $10 a day in adsense income while hopefully waiting for all the juice to transfer from the old to the new site.
Might add that both sites are PR4, same niche, the new site has far more backlinks than the old one. Alexa thinks they are the same rank, despite one consistently having 10x the traffic of the other.
old domains are much worth in SEO, try to generate good links for redirected one and after couple of time you will get good ranking
An old domain will surely leave a positive effect on a new domain after redirection. If both are similar theme websites, would be more helpful.
A perfect 301 redirection from your old domain to new domain will be good as far as PR is concerned and link juice, infact it is a better option.
Wow, lots of Bergen County guys in here. I'm in Mahwah. If you 301 an aged domain that still has link popularity, you'll transfer the link popularity to the new domain, but not the age, so it's not as good as using an aged domain itself.
What do you think about "Manipulating search engines" ? Wiki says: Some years ago, redirect techniques were used to fool search engines. For example, one page could show popular search terms to search engines but redirect the visitors to a different target page. There are also cases where redirects have been used to "steal" the page rank of one popular page and use it for a different page, usually involving the 302 HTTP status code of "moved temporarily."[2][3] Search engine providers noticed the problem and took appropriate actions[citation needed]. Usually, sites that employ such techniques to manipulate search engines are punished automatically by reducing their ranking or by excluding them from the search index. As a result, today, such manipulations usually result in less rather than more site exposure. Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/URL_redirection
