I am by no means a pro but I would recommend searching around this forums and reading about SEO. It helped me a lot. Also try to get involved in the SEO community. They have a lot of tutorials for newbies. I suggest SEOMoz and fasttrackSEO among others. (I am not affiliated with either of them.)
