My ranking dropped from top ten on many difficult to rank on keywords. It dropped dramatically, and I am wondering if Google has people who systematically go through and lower sites? Or can competition report someone, and get their sites lowered? etc. etc. Basically, my question comes to this: If there is a flaw in my site, and Google ignores it on one crawl, can it catch it on a second crawl? Thanks in advance.
You've made no changes? Is it possible that G is no longer seeing your content updated, and is therefore dropping it down because of that? Define 'flaw in my site' - a G-placement trick, or something else? As far as I know, G wouldn't manually go through and decrease/increase sites. Now if you were removed from G entirely ... that would be a reporting problem. Again, is there anything on your site that, if someone from Google were to look at your site, would get you removed? If so, maybe it's past time to do something about it. EDIT: That said, this is probably general enough to go over in one of the Google/SEO forums, eh? You might get some better answers there.
Nope, didn't make any changes for the past 3 or 4 google crawls. I'm curious if crawls are done just partially each time? Like little bits at a time? Or does it crawl the whole thing? How can it find a flaw on a third or fourth crawl of the page? Or was there manual cause for this? i.e. google manually botched it. On another note, does the rate at which you accumulate new links for your site matter dramatically? Like say, each time google crawls your page on average you have 3 or 4 new quality links, but then all the sudden you are getting 1 or 2 new links instead. Would that cause a DRAMATIC drop? Does rate of popularity (via the link votes) matter? Or is it just the quantity of links?
