Google rank over time

I have read that if you do your work you will get Google traffic. The timeframe to get the traffic up is usually estimated at 6 months. Is this timeframe accurate or is it just for a site with no inbound links that is submitted to Google for indexing? I see sites and pages that I create show up with some traffic within a few days and I am wondering if traffic from Google will grow over time.

In one example page (http://www.aspiringgeek.com/sox/) I have dynamic content and keep the HTML simple and do some of the basic SEO work. This one got traffic soon since it was linked to pages that see the Googlebot every 5 days and is growing slowly. Can I expect traffic and ranking to grow?

    Thanks.
