Google Proxy hack

I was reading a blog post somewhere yesterday (I don't remember where), but it was about the expert who was called in by Brad Fallon - the 'Wedding Favors' guy who had a problem - his main home page was not having any traffic from Google anymore and the expert found out why.

His cache page for his home page had been cleverly hacked as to redirect to somewhere else - thus no traffic to his site.

Contacting Google put it right, but the problem still persists and Google seems at the moment to not be able to do anything about this.

It mentioned in the blog post to check occassionally with Google Wemaster Central and check if your pages are being indexed alright. So I thought - well I've not been there in a long time I will check.

I had to 'verify' that I was the owner of the website by putting an html piece of code on my server and they let me have the stats.

I found that they had 6 errors.

I checked through them all and found that five were nothing more than 'time out' problems - but the 6th. one led me to contact Google urgently via email!

It had been hacked! It was a page from one of my Amazon shops that was showing all different books on there to what there should have been. How long Google has had this cached page like that I don't know but the funny thing is instead of changing the affiliate i.d. the hackers left that and I would have got all the commission from any sales!

Have you checked with Google Webmaster central about your site yet?

I intend doing the check every week from now on.
