    Hey guys,

I am currently building a new website... I get about 500 impressions a day..... and its been up for about two weeks now. When I check to see if my page is listed in Google, it does come up... but only shows my index and doesnt even show a description of the site.

Someone said this may be because I only have a Domain name...and I have it forwarded to a geocities (geocities plus) website.

I cannot find my rank, and even when I put in related keywords, it is lost.

    Any suggestions?

    its: http://www.listentoourband.net

Have you heard of the sandbox? Check it out, there are tons of posts about it on here. Do a search. I have a feeling this is what you're seeing.

Best to get rid of the Geocities Plus package! Either step up to Pro or find another host that allows you to host your own domain name. Google is indexing your website under the Geocities domain. As an example do a Google search for the following page.

    geocities.com/listentobands/rock.html

Do you have any suggestions on another host that allows me to host my own domain name? Currently I already am paying for the domain name i have...listentoourband.net. I want to keep that name.... but get another hosting program (instead of geocities) so i can be indexed on google correctly.

have you heard anything good about http://www.ixwebhosting.com/?

    Hey musicmysoul,
If you are serious about your site and adsense (and I don't see why you shouldn't be) set your site up on a real host.

There are tons of cheap hosting packages out there. Godaddy is like 3.99 or something a month for the least expensive package. You don't have to change the name you already have, just point the domain name to the new ip for whatever host you select.

Once you get those pages hosted, drop the geocities pages, so there are no duplicates.

I can't say for certain, but se's might get weird about the way you have your real domain name to forward to geocities right now.

Thanks! I'll be sure to do that.

All I have to do is change the geocities link to the host I have? Not sure how to do that.

First of all I wouldnt put my pages on anything supported by the hosting co's ads being displayed on my site.

I'd do a search on "best hosting companies" on dp or the se's, or start another thread asking for input under general business or domain names (not sure which section) - You'll get a better response with more input from dp members.

I have tried quite a few different hosts! The best I have found for my use is PowerVPS.com. I have a VPS account however they also offer shared hosting. Try pinging my homepage at dnsstuff.com and comparing with any other hosting company!

corinaw is correct about free (ad supported hosting)! You should be able to easily pay for your hosting from Adsense earnings. I have not tried 50megs paid hosting. Though I seem to remember having a free account a couple years ago. Worked ok but think my site was shut down due to inactivity??

Choosing a hosting package will depend a lot on your traffic and the features you want to add to your site. I doubt the $1.99 package includes PHP or a mySQL database? Actually looks like only their most expense package includes those features?
