I just don't get Google PR, and am wondering how much I should even care anymore. My site is over 2 years old, lots of quality backlinks, recently had a PR6, and was completely absent from the first several pages of Google results. All of the sudden....my traffic more than doubles overnight. I check my Google SERP and I'm 4th for my search term. From nothing to 4th after 2 years of hammering away. Curious....I check my PR...and it's ZERO! How can these 2 conditions coexist???
I normally don't worry about PR too much. If a website's PR drops from PR6 to PR0 I would be concerned. What is your url? PR does sometimes jump around a bit in the middle or a PR update. Perhaps it will go back up within a few days. Have you done anything different or new in the last week or two? In the end, search engine rankings and revenue are the most important things. So if you have a #4 ranking, I guess you should enjoy it.
Moving from PR6 to PR0 may mean that google thinks you're selling links. They might have removed your visible toolbar PR to discourage people from buying links from you. However, TBPR doesn't have anything to do with your SERPs. Before I worried I'd wait a few days and make sure it isn't just a tool bar glitch (I've had a site go 0 for a day without any impact on my SERPs).
Thanks for the replies. Actually, I don't, and never have sold links. In fact, there are no outbound links on my site. It's a niche product (not related to ebooks or internet marketing) which I've developed and marketed for over 2 years. The only thing I've done differently was to purchase advertising (banner/text) from a high traffic community portal. That partially explains the jump in traffic, but not the PR drop. I've surmised that I don't really care. What matters is performance, and my stats are only getting better, not worse.
try to observe it for days. if it still the same, you can contact Google about it. that's what happen to me. luckily my PR came back but not as high as it was before it disappear
It sound like your site is in the middle of an index. Give it a week. Then you will see the stable results.
Have you done anything wrong with your site unknowingly? have you stopped building back links form long time? check once what is that major change in your website. Some time it happens because of Google dance. So if problem is because of dance than do not worry and just wait for some days. Actually i am not crazy for PR. And i don't care for it as well. I just concern with SERP position, traffic and its conversion. PR is just a trademark which is given by Google (One of three major search engines). So just don't worry and keep working for your website. Get good SERP position and traffic.
