I believe if two pages having the keyword density same and equally optimized(On-Page), The SERP will be affected by the PR of the web page. Ie Both Pages A and B having saming on-page optimization(assume almost similar content and forget duplication). PR of Page A is 3 and the same of Page B is 1. In google, Result from A will be on the top.
PR does affect the SERP. I agree with romelprashad, however there is no direct correlation between these two. Higher PR is always an advantage for you to go forward.
Hey your thinking is wrong. You forgot about the back links SERP's are based on Back links and On page optimization only. Not based on PR
try to focus on your content and your traffic will increase automatically. When you have a good traffic your PR will be good too.

kutekutta thanks you for sharing the point as my focus is to increase the PR of my site but now i realise that i have to look out for site traffic, visitors and then automatically my PR go high.
I only care about my position for search words. Low PR and high Serps are a good combo, because it may keep you off the radar for competitors who value high PR.
PR increasing according to your ranking, Ranking increasing according to Backlinks, Backlinks increasing according to your good Content, Great content are not copied content!!!
